• Meditation — what it does and how we do it

“Every time we become aware of a thought... we experience that opening of the mind.”
                                                          ― Joseph Goldstein

    Why Meditate?

Meditation has been around for thousands of years as an important part of every religion. Insight Meditation comes from Buddhism and does not require any religious belief. By concentrating on the moment and becoming aware of feelings and thoughts, many find it easier to achieve peace of mind, manage their stress, and find serenity in their lives.

    Monmouth Insight Meditation Practice

We begin promptly at 7:00 pm with a brief reading from one of the respected teachers of Insight Meditation. We then sit comfortably for a 40-minute meditation. This is followed by a 15-minute walking meditation and then a 15-minute sitting meditation. At the end of meditation, we have the opportunity to sit and share our experience of the evening, both the reading and the meditation.

  • Meditation is for everyone

It is not a skill; it is a practice.

    If you have never meditated

This is the time to get started

You do not have to stop your thoughts, empty your mind, or discipline your restlessness. All you have to do is wear comfortable clothes, relax, and let your thoughts and feelings come and go, something that is even easier when doing it with other people. There are many ways to meditate: count your breaths, scan your body sensations, focus your eyes on an object in front of you, and many others. You can explore these when you join us to start your practice.

If you have tried meditating in the past

    Try Insight Meditation with us

Insight Meditation distills the essence of meditation without the belief systems and rituals of many other approaches. Meditating with a group on a regular basis can also help you overcome personal barriers like lack of self-discipline, feeling alone, or not being sure if you are doing it the right way. (Spoiler alert: there is no right way!) Come join us and rediscover what attracted you to meditation in the first place.
